Filtering and sorting

Enhance your customer experience by enabling product filtering and sorting so your customers can discover the perfect product for them.

Sorting

By default, the product list is sorted alphabetically (from A to Z) by product name. However, you can change the default sort method. Go to Product > Collections > Select a collection > Products > Sort by and then select how you want to sort the products by default.

  1. Enable sorting on the Collection page:
    1. Open a Collections template from the dropdown menu in the top bar
    2. Click on the Product grid section to open its settings.
    3. Check Enable sorting to allow customers to sort by price, date, best selling, featured, or alphabetically.
    4. Click Save.

Filtering

Filters allow you to set up product filtering on your search and collection pages. When you enable filtering, customers can filter your products by availability, product type, color, or other custom options.

Shopify Search & Discovery app

Install the Shopify Search & Discovery app. This app allows you to customize the filters you want to show in your store and sort the order. Click here to learn what filter types are available and how to set them up.

To select which filter options to enable, go to Apps > Shopify Search & Discovery > Filters in your Shopify admin. You can add, remove, and reorder your filter options.

Visual filters

Filter values can include a small visual to display attributes like colors and patterns. When the filter is a metaobject, you can use Display type settings to choose the colors and images to display, or even keep the display as text-only.

Please follow these steps to use visual filters:

  1. Create a metaobject definition that fulfills the following criteria:
    • At least 1 text field. The text field can be any of the following types: single line text, decimal, integer, or true or false.
    • At least 1 color field or 1 file field with images. The color field can be a list.

  1. Add entries to the metaobject.

  2. Add a Metaobject reference that links the metaobject to either products or variants.

  3. Assign to the products on which you want to apply the visual filters.
  4. In the Shopify Search & Discovery app, select the filter with a Metaobject reference.
