Create a new Product Template

Product templates control the layout of your product page (not the contents). For example, if you sell clothing, you may want a product page template with a size chart. Whereas, if you sell food, you may want a product page template with an ingredient list. Please note: any change made to a product page template will change all products using that template. To show unique content for each product, use Metafields.

To create a new product page template, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to your Theme editor and choose Products > Create template from the top bar.
2. In the Create a template pop-up, add a Name for your new template. For example, 'Product-with-sizes.'
3. Select a base template that the new template will be based on. For example, Default product.
4. Click Create template.
5. Your new product template will appear on the screen. Now, you can add or remove sections and blocks to create your new, custom template. To learn more about the available sections in our themes, please see sections.
6. After you add and customize your desired sections and blocks, click Save.
7. In your Shopify admin, go to Products and select the product you want to apply to the new template.
8. On the right side of the page, scroll down to 'Theme template' and select the template you just created.
9. Click Save.

Pro tip: to apply your new template to multiple products, select all of the products in your Admin, go to 'Bulk Edit,' click 'Columns' in the top-left corner, go to General > Template. From there you can bulk edit the product template applied to multiple products at once.

You must purchase and publish the theme before your new templates will appear in your Product's Template dropdown. Shopify only allows templates from published themes to be assigned.
