Add a Countdown Timer to a Product

Honey allows you to display a countdown timer on a product. You can use this tool to create urgency around an event or sale. The timer is available on the product page, the product card, and as a section.

This feature uses Metafields to function. Please follow the instructions below to setup the countdown timer on the product page and product card.

Define Metafield

This is a one time step. If you have already added this Metafield definition, skip to the next step.

1. On your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Custom data > Products.
2. Click Add definition in the top right.
3. In the Name field, enter Countdown date
4. In the Namespace and key field, enter theme.countdown_date
5. Click (+) Select type.
6. Select Date and time.
7. Click Save.

Setting the countdown date

1. On your Shopify admin, go to Products and select a product in which you would like to add the countdown timer.
2. Scroll down to the Metafields section, then click Show all to open the Metafield values of the product.
3. Click on the Countdown date Metafield and set the expiry date and time you desire.
4. Click Save.

Displaying the countdown timer

Product page

In your theme editor:

1. Go to Product page template > Product information.
2. Click on the Countdown timer block to open its settings.
   • If the Countdown timer block doesn’t exist, you can add it. In the side panel, under the Product information section, click (+) Add block and select the Countdown timer block.
3. The default placeholder text in the Heading field is 'Sale ends in'. If desired, you may change this text to what you prefer or leave this field empty if you want to remove it entirely.
4. To adjust the block font size, use the Font size slider.
5. Use the Color scheme dropdown to change the background color and text of the countdown timer block.
6. Click Save.

Product card

Navigate to Theme Settings > Products

1. Check Show countdown timer to display the countdown timer on product cards.
